Am I really this transparent?

You Are Beer!

You don't need to get totally wasted when you hit the bars.
More of a social drinker, you just like to have fun with your friends.
And as long as the beer keeps flowing, you're a happy camper.
But don't mix things up: "Beer Before Liquor, Never Been Sicker!"

Teach for America

So, while the entire rest of the free world has started classes, we don't start classes at Harvard Divinity for another couple of weeks on Sept. 18. I have to admit I really like the time off after having such a busy summer, but I'm sort of becoming a little bored! I keep telling myself that "only boring people get bored," but it isn't helping!

So as I prepare to enter my second, and final, year here at HDS I've been thinking about what the next step in my life is going to be. I've pretty well decided that I want to do Teach for America (TFA).

In case you're not familiar with TFA, it is a non-profit program that takes recent college graduates and trains them to be teachers in school districts around the country that have trouble finding teachers, these districts are all in inner-city (New York, LA, Miami) or rural areas (North Carolina, Mississippi, South Texas).

Basically, you volunteer to teach in one of these areas for two years and you get paid whatever a teacher in those districts are paid. I really like the idea as it is a way to pay back everything that has been given to me in being allowed an opportunity at an education.

Anyway, TFA has sites in South Dakota and New Mexico that serve the Pine Ridge, Rosebud, Navajo and Zuni Pueblo reservations. I'm really excited at the opportunity to work with one of these communities. So, any how, I really hope it works out. I've been praying about it and I think this is what I'm supposed to be doing right now.

On another note, it's 1 week until the Sooners kick-off!!!!

Bullets don't kill people, Jack Bauer kills people!

Jack Bauer is the most kick-ass character on TV today.

If Jack Bauer were on the hunt for Osama Bin Laden, Bin Laden would just turn himself in...'cause he'd know his life was worthless! Jack is that bad!

In case you're not in the loop Jack Bauer is the lead character (played by Keifer Sutherland) on the Fox TV show 24. 24 follows a fictional government agency known as the Counter Terrorism Unit (CTU) that has to save the country one day at a time! The thing that makes this show so exciting is that each season takes place in real time...each episode is one hour in one day, hence one season equals one day or 24 hours!

Unfortunately, the new season of 24 doesn't come on until January so that Fox can show all 24 episodes back to back with no repeats, which makes for friggin' good TV!!!! But you can catch former seasons in reruns or on DVD, so check it out!

But until then I'm adding a special feature on my right hand sidebar Random Facts About Jack Bauer! I'll place various facts about Jack Bauer there as an homage to the most kick-ass character on TV!

Thanks Be to God and Jack Bauer! Oh, and Boomer Sooner too!

Well, the summer is almost over! It has gone by so fast. Most of the summer residents moved out of the dorm this weekend, so the building is kinda empty again. It makes me miss my friends all the more. I can't wait until they get back to Cambridge here in a few weeks.

I realized that I never posted about my experience at the museum. Needless to say, or maybe it is needed, I had the best time ever!!! I got to work on two upcoming exhibits and work on several items in the conservation lab. I learned so much and made some great friends. One of the guys at the museum is from Nebraska so we razzed each other every chance we got about our football loyalties. Anyway, here are some pics of a couple of the things I worked on in the conservation lab...

On the left is a pair of children's moccasins from the southern plains that I worked on...here I'm cleaning them with a low-suction vacuum with a hepa filter. On the right is an Apache toy cradleboard that I also worked on. I cleaned and stabalized it and built the box you see behind it!

And, hey! It's only 12 days until the Sooners kick-off! Boomer friggin' Sooner!

Thanks Be to God and Boomer Sooner!

Feast of St. Dominic!

Today is the Feast of St. Dominic!

The Dominicans are my favorite Catholic Order because I really relate to their charism of evangelization through education. It's funny though, because I have never ever met a Dominican! How'd that work?

Anyway, in honor of St. Dominic here's a joke...

So, who's better at their mission?

The Jesuits and their mission to evangelize the Protestants?

-or-

The Dominicans and their mission to evangelize the Albigensians?
