Harvard and its Divinity School

I have to admit, my previous post (which has been edited for potty mouth language) was written in deep anger.

Harvard Divinity School has not been the most welcoming of places for me. I find it interesting that a place that places such high importance on being open and inclusive is exactly the opposite for students who are conservative/orthodox Christians. I find that the school, from faculty to students to staff, is often outright hostile to those of us who actually profess faith in Jesus Christ.

I find that this is a common feeling among my classmates who are conservative Christians...regardless of which Christian tradition they are coming from.

Oh well...only five weeks to go!

gotta love them Skankees!

The Boston Red Sox became just the fifth* team in Major League history to hit four consecutive home runs in a game!

As if that wasn't awesome, and historic enough it came against the New York Skankees!

Oh, how sweet it is!!!

Thanks Be to God and Manny Ramirez, JD Drew, Mike Lowell and team captain Jason Veritek!

*the other teams that have hit four consecutive home runs in a game are the 1961 Braves, the 1963 Indians, the 1964 Twins, and the 2006 Dodgers.

May the souls of the faithful departed

Shoot a Cannonball towards Rome!!!

$ $ $ $ $

My cyberspace friend Carolina Cannonball is trying to get to Rome but doesn't seem to have $1979.00 laying around (can't imagine what's up with that?).

So she's doing what any rational 21st Century blogger does...she's blegging (blogging + begging = blegging!)!!

Get the whole (so sad it'll make a hungry orphan cry) story here!

As I'm a poor, starving, nearly homeless grad student, the best I can do to help her out is to post her bleg on my blog.

So, if you have an extra $ .50, or $1, 5, 10, or more please send it her way!

You'll be helping to shoot a cannonball to Rome!

There's gotta be some sort of indulgence for that...right?

Donate by going to her site and clicking on the picture of the St. Peter's on top of the right hand column!

iPod Shuffle of the Week--Survey Style!

Consider yourself Tagged!

I, like most people, love music. My friend Abby posted this survey, so I filled it out also. It's kind of creepy the way some of the songs came up and matched the question so well!

Rules: set your iPod or media player of choice to shuffle and answer each question with the song that comes up! Then repost the answers in a note of your own. No Cheating!

What do your friends think about you:
A Little Less Talk and A Lot More Action (Toby Keith: Greatest Hits)

What do you dream about:
She Thinks My Tractor's Sexy (Kenny Chesney: Greatest Hits)

Whats the theme song to your life:
Brother Love's Traveling Salvation Show (Neil Diamond: Gold)

What was your high school like:
Blood and Roses (The Smithereens: Romy and Michelle's High School Reunion Soundtrack----rather appropriate!)

How do you feel right now:
Crunchy Granola Suite (Neil Diamond: Gold)

When you get older your life will be:
Thank God I'm A Country Boy (John Denver: An Evening with John Denver)

Your angry song is:
Kiss Off (Violent Femmes: Add It Up)

Your love song is:
Atomic Dog (George Clinton: Greatest Funkin' Hits)

Your happy song is:
Ice Ice Baby (Vanilla Ice: 13 Going on 30 Soundtrack)

How you feel about your boyfriend/ girlfriend:
It Ain't Over Til It's Over (Lenny Kravitz: Greatest Hits)

What your bf/gf thinks about you:

Life at HDS...

The HDS Democrats have been having a movie night series. This coming Tuesday they are planning on watching Left Behind (movie info, Left Behind series info).

My problem is that they are planning on watching this in order to mock it. There doesn't seem to be any recognition that this is representative of many, many peoples faith. It is just assumed that everyone knows this is silliness.

It really upset me that this is what they are doing. I know, I know, you're saying perhaps I'm being overly sensitive. However, there have been many comments on the facebook event page that are outright mocking of the movie; and I'm not talking about the merits of the filmmaking. There is a post referring to an article from The Onion that mocks Christian faith. There is also a person to person post (these things are public on facebook for anyone who isn't aware) that asks, again mockingly, if the person is "one of the 144,000."

Please note that I'm not arguing the fine theological points of eschatology.

Now, I'm most definitely one who understands humor and also understands that God has a sense of humor. But, I have a serious problem with people who feel the need to make those who actually have faith and beliefs less than.

This is simply not right and is illustrative of HDS and its interactions with people who actually believe Christ and His message.
